Pupils from Oostkamp organised a walk for water!

On the first of June all our pupils walked 5 kilometers for a good cause. Time for some outdoor teaching!
The pupils of our modern science group organised this sponsored event. They worked out small games and workshops on the topic water: making a water compass, testing water quality, playing water baseball, a water quiz with water balloons etc. Highlight of the walk was the crossing of the Rivierbeek by boat.

Special thanks to Berit, Unni, Haldis, Oyvint, Tove, Lina and all the other teachers in Norway who gave us a warm welcome, an excellent stay and a splendid program.
We will never forget this!

Itziar's Diary of the stay

MY DIARY

25-02-2015
This day was the first one that I went to Belgium. I woke up at half past six morning, I got dress, I had breakfast and I went to Ocaña with my parents. When I arrived in Ocaña I said good bye to my parents and I got into the bus to go to the airport with David, Natalia, Raluca, Estela, Belén and Carmen. When we arrived in Belgium, we took a train to Brussels and we saw the “Gran Place”, the “Manneken pis”, the paintings on the walls and a lot of chocolate shops because the best chocolate of the world is from Belgium. After the visit, we went to Bruges because it started to rain. When we arrived in Bruges, we went with two of the teacher from there to Oostkamp. We went to the high school and there we ate and drank something. At night we had a catering and we met our host-families and all the students’ related with the exchange. After dinner, I went with the family to their house and I gave them the presents and I went to sleep.

This day was the first one that we had lessons. After I prepared to go to the high school I had cereals with milk for breakfast and when I finished, Patricia ( the mother of the host-family) took Josephine ( the girl I was with) and me to the high school. We had an hour to talk with our friends and after that we had a P.E. Lesson with the students of first of ESO. We played a game where we had to catch each other but we couldn't put a feet on the floor, we only could walk on the top of some mats; it was funny. When we came back to the high school, we had a technology lesson where we did like a small grinder that only worked with the sun. After I had lunch in the cafeteria, we went to visit Bruges. When the visit finished, we had free time for us, so we bought some waffles; later we went to Fnac and after that we went to Quick (a famous fast food restaurant in Belgium). There I realized that I didn't have my mobile phone so I ran with Josephine to Fnac and fortunately the phone was there. We went to buy something in a shop called Tiger too. Later we went running to the bus stop because it started raining. At night I went with the family to a fast food restaurant special for celiacs.

27-02-2015
This was the best day for me because we met better the Belgian students. After an hour for us, where we could send emails, we had a natural science lesson where they talked about the fire; it was interesting because they taught us new things that we didn't know. Then, we had a little break and after it all the high school met in the “rotonda” to paint a brick with our names. We had lunch and later we went to a cooking lesson and it was the best part of the day because after I made a cocktail with my group, we improvised a Spanish lesson;it was perfect. After the high school ,I went with my host-family to buy some sweets and chocolate. For dinner we ate some typical dish from Belgium that consists of a sausage, potatoes, applesauce and a kind of lettuce. Finally, I went with my host-family and Estela's host-family to the bowling alley.

This day was Saturday and we didn't have school so we went home and I helped Josephine to clean, feed and take care to the horses and we talked about our lives while we were doing it. After that, we had breakfast that consisted of toast mixed with eggs and milk, I believe, and then they fried it. Later we played some boardgames typical from there and then we had lunch; we ate some sandwiches because there it is typical to eat this for lunch. After lunch, I went with Josephine, Estela and Camille (the girl that Estela was with) to do some shopping in Bruges. It was funny because we saw a carnival, we bought some things and we ate something at Quick. At night we ate some spaghetti with a special sauce made by Patricia and after that I went to my bedroom because I had to pack my luggage to come back to Spain.

This day was my last day in Belgium. In the morning I had a shower, I got ready to go to the train station and finally I had breakfast. I said good bye to my host-family and I took a train to the airport in Brussels. When we arrived at the airport we passed the check-in, we entered in the duty-free, we bought some chocolate and we had a little meal at Quick. When the plane arrived in Spain, we went by bus to Ocaña and there our families picked us up.
